Jose Acasuso replaced off-form Guillermo Cañas as
Argentina named its team Tuesday for the Davis Cup final at
home to Spain later this month.
Acasuso's inclusion was the only change to the team that
beat Russia in September's semifinal, with David Nalbandian,
Juan Martin del Potro and Agustin Calleri keeping their places,
the Argentine Tennis Association said in a statement.
Del Potro, 20, is Argentina's highest-ranked player at No.
8 in the world, followed by Nalbandian, who is eleventh.
Cañas has dropped to 77th while Acasuso is 48th.
Argentina, unbeaten at home for 10 years, has reached the
final for the third time but has lost its previous two, against
the United States in 1981 and Russia two years ago.
The Nov. 21-23 final will be staged indoors at the Islas
Malvinas arena in the resort of Mar del Plata. The decision
has angered Nalbandian, who wanted to play in his hometown
of Cordoba.
